Student Paper Prize

As a new feature for MFPT 2012, we are introducing a prize for the Best Student Paper, selected from all papers submitted for publication in the 2012 MFPT hard-bound proceedings. Students can be at BS, MS or PhD levels, and papers will be judged on originality and quality of technical content, and the clarity and quality of the written paper.  Once your abstract has been accepted, your full written paper must be submitted by 30 Jan 2012.

Hands-on Workshop

Yet another 'first' for MFPT 2012 is a hands-on 3 hr workshop, covering basic practical issues and techniques for data acquisition, signal processing, and data analysis. Workshop attendees will have an assigned workstation equipped with laptop computer with MATLAB installed that is linked to a motor which will generate 'good' and 'faulty' data that they will acquire, process and analyze as part of the workshop exercise. Conference attendees will be given the opportunity to register for this workshop free when they make their MFPT 2012 registration (see Workshop summary page).

Thursday Afternoon Social Activity

We shall be repeating the MFPT 2009 social program to take you to the National Museum of the United States Air Force. This will be on Thursday afternoon, the last afternoon of the conference, so please don't be tempted to take an early flight home but instead take the opportunity to visit a prestigious facility that attracts 1.3M visitors per year (yes, over 3,500 people per day!). All those who attended in 2009 were "blown away" by the exhibits and depth of information across almost 110 years of flight. We plan to take advantage of the free guided tours that occur at 1.30 pm each day or you can roam through the 4 hangars at your leisure. Transport will be provided from the Conference  Hotel to and from the Museum. We are also looking at tours of the Wright Brothers' house which is just a few miles from the conference venue and is a National Heritage Property well worth visiting.
